2014 Scott Speedster Bicycle Recall

In cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, Scott has voluntarily issued a safety recall on its 2014 model year Speedster 30 and 40 and Contessa Speedster 25 and 35 bicycles.

The recall issue
These bicycles have been recalled because the fork steerer can break (the steerer is the part of the fork that's hidden inside the frame). If this happens, it poses a fall hazard to riders. The recalled Scott bikes were sold at authorized Scott dealers at retail and online between about August 2013 and May 2014 for between $1,000 and $1,300.

There has been 1 reported incident of a fork breaking. No injuries have been reported.

How to identify if you have this bicycle
This recall involves model-year 2014 Scott Men’s and Women’s road bicycles. The models recalled are the Scott Speedster 30, Speedster 40, Contessa Speedster 25 and Contessa Speedster 35.

The bikes have the brand name “SCOTT” and the model name “Speedster” on the frame. They were sold in Black and White with blue, green, purple or teal accents.

The 5 serial-number ranges below (in bold) are included in the recall. The serial number is printed on a white sticker and embossed on the underside of the bicycle frame near the front chainrings (sprockets).

AS30500001–AS30504930, AS30700001–AS30704651, AS30900001–AS30903278, AS31100001–AS31103744 and AS40101604–AS40105463.

The remedy
If you have one of these bicycles, please stop riding it immediately and return it to us (or your nearest authorized Scott retailer) so that we can replace the recalled fork.
